On a fine spring afternoon in March 1945, a small group of German soldiers and civilians dumped two lifeless bodies in blue air force serge and flying gear into a shell hole near to a farmhouse in the countryside in Germany. They both had terrible injuries; both had been shot.

Not long after the war, news of a potential war crime began to circulate which led to an investigation, a trial, and a conviction three years later for those who had taken part in the men’s murder. But who were the murdered men? On whose authority had they been executed and why? What happened to the people involved in their killing? And why is it likely that a report from the Royal Air Force’s Missing Research and Enquiry Service and a grave in the Reichswald Forest War cemetery hold the answers to the airmen’s identity and final resting place?

Following their previous success in discovering the identities of the three airmen murdered in the Essen-West Lynching Case in their book Missing Presumed Murdered, authors Sean Feast and Marc Hall have once again teamed up to solve a riddle of even greater intrigue and complexity. Through meticulous research, they reveal what really happened on that fateful day, the characters involved, why the British and American investigators could not agree on who committed the crime, and the part played by the SS Chief Heinrich Himmler in sealing the murdered men’s fate.

Blue Murder is the full story of the Duisberg-Nienhausen Case, ending a mystery that has stood for more than 80 years.

Sean Feast had a 40-year career in PR and advertising, and is the author of numerous highly respected books focusing on the lives and experiences of wartime airmen and women.
